By PaulYoulten (payo): It’s derived from a Hawaiian Petroglyph called “Ohana”
I like it! I especially like the origins. The textured background is an issue, especially if you want to shrink the logo down or do a favicon.ico. I used my very rudimentary GIMP skills to capture just the petroglyph itself. The edges still need to be smoothed out. – EugeneEricKim
Logo idea 2:
That is much better! The truth is that the only reason it had a textured background was my lack of GIMP skills… and then I managed to back-rationalise an oval/globe-ish egg shape and happy memories of Frottage as a child. I think we need vector graphics from Inkscape rather than GIMP. Let me take another pass at it. - PaulYoulten
How about a modern looking version of the same idea?. - PaulYoulten
I like them too, wondering about the narrow definition of family it may imply. MarkDilley
Now that wiki creole is going to become 1.0 we are looking for a logo as well, maybe we could derive it from the ohana logo? --ChristophSauer
How about a much more stylized version?
The font is Trebuchet and can be changed. The box around the logo is just to stop it floating in space - and doesn’t need to be part of the logo itself. Keeping it nice and simple.
Just by serendipity it has elements of the letters “W” and “O” in it which like all good designs allows for “back rationalization” :-) As always, comments, feedback, new versions please. - PaulYoulten
